At a Complete Loss of Blog

I am flabbergasted.

My plan was to use this blog as an outlet for when I had some burning comment to make and no one interested in hearing it. Figured I could give the old imaginary readers an earful and move on.

Now I am faced with an unfamiliar circumstance. Something has me riled up but I can't find the words to describe the magnitude of my exasperation. I have the "burning" without the "comment".

Apparently, political partisanship has become so ingrained in certain sectors that some people were actually upset that the elected President of the country addressed school children last week. They said he was planning to "indoctrinate them with presidential thinking". They said this as if it were a bad thing and threatened to keep their children home, out of harm's way.

I wonder who would be an acceptable speaker in these people's minds. Everyone has an agenda. Everyone has a message. Seems like letting your children be exposed to a speaker who was elected President by the nation's citizens would be about as safe as you can get.

I am so astounded by the absurdity of this story that I just don't know what else to say. I am at a complete loss of blog.

I hear you. I had about the same reaction. The way some people reacted you'd think it was a religous speech. It's hard to understand what drives some people's train of thought. RF

I think you need to start a 3rd and 4th party...we need new ideas including respect for others. JD

  3. two things outrage me about this:

    1) That people think this way
    2) That this was a headlining story on nytimes.com, when in reality the only place these objections were coming from is Texas (suprise!!!)

perhaps we can sleep better knowing this is just another blown-out-of-proportion story by a media outlet struggling to keep up with 24-hour punditry on cable and radio. Or we that's what we can tell ourselves

  4. i think it is another case of not enough people having enough to keep them busy and they have to complain about something. It was an issue with people all over the country, even a little town here in Maine. I also think it is either people who hate democrats, or black people, or are extremely narrow minded or all of the above.

I think it's that people would rather tell their children what to think as opposed to how to think. Dissemination of information, and how we process that information, is how we learn - cut off the venue of exposure to new information and innovative ideas and you effectively set up the foundation of a narrow mind-set, easier to manipulate and control. To me, it's about control and resistance to change. Reitrof

Unfortunately the President is not just The President, he is the Democratic President. And that just sets up the partisan politics that screw up this country. Why can't we elect Bob for President ? Hi, my name is Bob and I am running for President, on the Bob for Prseident ticket, not the Republican ticket, nor Democartic, nor Green, Nuclear, Communist, etc.. Just Bob, and this is what i stand for.......
So if the Democratic President gets to speak to the Children, we will obviously have to have the Republican response. I can't wait.

I know people who are still insistent on blaming the Clinton Administration for many failures of the Bush Administration. How narrow minded is that...?! I made a decision to stop listening to the WEEI sports talk show on weekday mornings, because there has tended to be more "right wing rhetoric" talk than sports. MPM
